As part of Operation Axe in Montreal, around 47 individuals involved in illegal drug trafficking of addictive drugs and anabolic steroids had been arrested by the local police force. These individuals were part of Montreal’s notorious gangs and the recent arrests involved the gangs’ leaders who were once considered “untouchables”.
Dany Cadet Sprinces and Gregory Wooley were two of those who had been arrested. They weren’t actually out in the streets when the police caught them– they were already in jail. Still, they somehow managed to continue distributing drugs within prison wall.
Jean Lavertue, a weightlifter and local gym owner was also arrested for illegal distribution of drugs. Lavertue is a former competitor in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
The police managed to raid several gang hideouts and seized over a dozen firearms and 41 kilograms of cocaine and anabolic steroids. These gangs earn as much as $500,000 in just one week of illegal drug trafficking. They have also been involved in a series of murder cases dating back 2000. The details of leads have been kept from the public.
